PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE COMMENDS TCDA’S PROGRESS, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR SECTOR GROWTH
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs has lauded the leadership and work of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, following a familiarization visit to the Authority’s head office in Accra.
During a courtesy visit to the authority’s office in Accra, the Committee praised the TCDA’s strategic direction, visibility efforts, regulatory enforcement plans, and stakeholder engagement initiatives since Dr. Okrah assumed office on February 18, 2025. The Committee described the Authority’s performance as progressive and impressive, particularly in enhancing value chain effectiveness across the six selected tree crops: cashew, shea, mango, coconut, rubber, and oil palm.
“The Authority has demonstrated excellence in its short time under new leadership,” said Committee Chairman Dr. Hon. Godfred Seidu Jasaw. “Despite the challenges of funding and compliance enforcement, the TCDA has shown significant promise. We are committed to supporting its initiatives, including capacity-building workshops and collaborative interventions that will empower all actors in the value chain.”
Dr. Jasaw noted that the Committee was impressed with the TCDA’s efforts to build credibility and visibility for the Authority and strengthen regulatory oversight in the sector. He pledged the Committee’s full support to accelerate the TCDA’s objectives.
Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, in response, expressed appreciation to the Committee for its recognition and pledged continued commitment to sector growth.
“We are building a robust and efficient Authority that works for every stakeholder along the tree crops value chain,” Dr. Okrah said. “The Committee’s support is invaluable, and we look forward to deeper collaboration in building a sustainable future for Ghana’s tree crops sector.”
The delegation included Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey (Vice Chairman), Hon. Isaac Yaw Opoku (Ranking Member), Hon. Seth Osei-Akoto (Deputy Ranking), Hon. Linda Obenewaa Ocloo (Greater Accra Regional Minister), and other distinguished Members of Parliament.
